What is a hangover?

A hangover is when some people experience symptoms like headache, dehydration, nausea, and vomiting after an evening of heavy drinking. the severity can depend on the quantity and the type of alcohol they consumed along with the amount of sleep.

Here, we look at some of the ways to prevent or reduce the severity of a hangover.

1.DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Consumption of alcohol causes you to urinate more often leading to dehydration. Sip more water at regular intervals which will help a person stay hydrated and reduce the symptoms of fatigue, thirst, and dehydration.

2.EATING BEFORE DRINKING

It is extremely important for a person to eat meals before drinking. Eating beforehand slows down the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream and it also keeps blood alcohol concentration lower thereby reducing the effects of a hangover.

3.ADD SOME CARBOHYDRATES

Drinking causes sugar levels to reduce, so sometimes fatigue and headache may be from a brain working without adequate fuel. Additionally, many people forget to eat when they drink that further lowers their blood sugar levels. Two slices of toast and a glass of fruit juice can get back their sugar levels to normal.

Banana is an easily available fruit and it is also termed as a hangover miracle food. It provides the right amount of potassium, which depletes after alcohol consumption. Low blood sugar levels will leave you exhausted. Banana provides instant energy.

5.CUCUMBER MINT WATER

Regular consumption of alcohol leaves acid ash in the body thus making it vulnerable to illness. The best way to start the day is by consuming alkaline foods. Cucumber and mint water is hydrating and provides a soothing effect to the body. This also helps in reducing the blood pressure mostly caused due to excessive drinking.
