As opposed to popular belief, you don’t need to have a large social media following of 10-20k followers to begin monetizing your knowledge as an online educator. If you have engagement & your audience believes in you, then you can start monetizing by starting your education cohort with just 10 people. This is what Hemant Yadav also did.
Hemant Yadav signed up with SocialBoat and sold out most of his sessions where he educated people about applying for Canada’s immigration and study programs. In our conversation with him, he shares how taking live classes proved to be beneficial for Canada aspirants, and other aspects of his journey. Read on to know more.
Who is Hemant Yadav?
Hemant holds a bachelor's degree in mass media and a management master's in HR. He has over 8+ years of corporate experience. While working, he thought of applying for a permanent residence in Canada. Hemant contacted well-known consultants to help him with the application process. The consultations were extremely generic and not action-oriented at all. They charged a big amount for simple knowledge that can be found through a Google search.
Hemant started doing his own research and read the resources thoroughly. After application, he was nominated for PR within one year.
Hemant realized that he wasn’t alone. What he faced is what thousands of people are facing every day. So. he decided to teach people what he had learned about Canada PR through his research.
“I want to help people because consultants charge a lot and don’t really help as promised.”
Before starting with live sessions, Hemant educated people about immigration and residence matters personally (one-to-one) and through Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Tasting success there he says,
“I realized I should do this more often.”
Hemant started looking for platforms to start conducting his live sessions for a small group of people, and he came across SocialBoat.
Moving Towards Live Sessions
“I saw SocialBoat's Instagram story and I pinged them at night. They responded at that time itself. I don’t have a team, it is just me. I had been looking at platforms for participants to book online sessions. In that respect, SocialBoat had it all under control,”
For the first couple of sessions, Hemant’s audience were people whom he knew already. But after that, new people started signing up for the session because their friends recommended it to them. Most of Hemant’s sessions were either sold out or almost full.
How Conducting Live Sessions through SocialBoat Helped Hemant?
1. Earned the trust of client because of professional outlook
Platforms like SocialBoat are designed for the purpose of helping creators conduct their classes. Their “professional-looking” pages add to the clients’ trust in what they are signing up for.
Hemant tells us,
“Had I put up these details on my social media profiles, people wouldn’t have trusted me to this extent. This adds to the credibility.”
2. Helped with all backend management
These platforms are especially beneficial for individual creators who don’t have a team. They receive all the help from the platform and don’t have to worry about the backend work. They can concentrate on educating, delivering their content, and giving their best.
3. Increased social media followers
Conducting live sessions also increased Hemant’s social media following, especially on LinkedIn. This way he is growing his online community, something that has immense potential. You can read about the benefits of a social media audience here.
Moreover, Hemant wishes to move towards creating content through social media for the masses in the future. A growing number of followers will be beneficial with that respect.
Exploring and understanding the market of consultants for PR, Hemant realized that there are either YouTube videos that are educational or one-to-one consultants that charge a fortune. Nobody was conducting live sessions where people can have all the information in one session itself, that too for a price as low as Hemant’s. He started what was missing and that's how he found his specialty, his niche.
